About Codd Contractors
Codd Contractors is a premier, family-owned agricultural contracting business that has been a cornerstone of the Hawke’s Bay farming community for several decades. Co-owned by David and Michael Codd, along with their wives Linda and Mechelle, the company operates out of two strategic depots in Tutira and Putorino. Their service area is expansive, reaching from the northern districts of Wairoa down to Napier.
Comprehensive Services & Advanced Equipment
As one of the region’s major contractors, the company provides a full suite of agricultural services. They maintain an extensive, high-quality fleet dominated by Claas machinery, including seven tractors and multiple high-capacity harvesters (940 and 870 models). To ensure accuracy and transparency for their clients, Codd Contractors recently added a portable weighbridge to their plant, allowing farmers to precisely measure grass and dry matter directly on-site during harvest.
Reliability and Safety
Success at Codd Contractors is built on a foundation of reliability and rigorous maintenance. The company prides itself on high health and safety standards, ensuring all machinery is kept “up to scratch” to provide the safest possible environment for their operators. This dedication to uptime is supported by a strong partnership with local suppliers, ensuring that when the weather is right, the team is ready to work without delay.
An Experienced Global Team
The business is powered by a steady team of seven experienced drivers. This workforce is a unique blend of local talent and international expertise, often featuring seasonal drivers from the UK and Ireland who bring global farming perspectives to the Hawke’s Bay landscape. Whether handling maize silage or grass, the team is highly trained to operate sophisticated machinery valued at over $150,000.
A Legacy of Commitment
Under the leadership of David Codd—who remains active in the daily operations and “book work” even in semi-retirement—Codd Contractors combines decades of traditional experience with modern technology to meet the evolving needs of today’s farmers.
